Extended periods of stress can significantly impact both our physical health and mental wellbeing. When life feels overwhelming, sometimes the most productive action we can take is to pause and do nothing at all.

Coping strategies like worry and avoidance may feel instinctive, but they tend to be both harmful and ineffective. To address anxiety in a healthy manner, it’s essential to focus on the emotions fueling our thoughts.

Emotional granularity—a skill that allows us to pinpoint and understand the specific feelings we’re experiencing—can offer valuable insight into the roots of our emotions, helping us navigate them more effectively.

Some prompts to journal about and reflect.

Can you think of a time when you felt overwhelmed? How did you cope (or not cope) with this feeling? How were you able to escape the feeling of overwhelm?

Dismissing fear and anxiety is as dangerous as choosing to live with them constantly. What do you think are the dangers of these two extremes?

Please post in comments your thoughts and observations.
